Upgraded Newly Registered Domains feed: up to 2x broader coverage, fuller domain records

We have released an upgraded version of the Newly Registered Domains (NRD) data feed. It now covers more domains and delivers a fuller registration record for each one. The improvement comes from how we collect and process the data: the feed now draws on both RDAP and WHOIS and keeps the best available record for each domain. The upgrade benefits every NRD plan, and the files you download and your integration are unaffected.

What’s improved

• Broader daily coverage. Each daily file now includes roughly 1.5x to 2x more domain events, as measured over different periods since the release, across the feed’s categories: newly added, updated, dropped, and discovered domains. We have expanded our collection infrastructure and added new data sources, so the feed can now collect reliable WHOIS or RDAP records for more of them.
• Automatic WHOIS vs. RDAP selection. For each domain, the feed compares the available RDAP and WHOIS records and keeps the most complete one, so you always get the fullest record available.
• Higher-confidence drop signals. We have improved the detection mechanics for dropped domains, so when the feed flags a domain as dropped, you can act on that signal with higher confidence.

These improvements apply across all NRD plans at no additional cost. Customers will see the updates reflected in the files included in their plan, from the broader daily coverage to the fuller records and higher-confidence drop signals.

Two WHOIS-enriched file versions: Ultimate and Ultimate Simple

The feed’s WHOIS-enriched files carry the domains together with their registration records. An Ultimate subscription includes them in two versions:

• Ultimate. The full WHOIS/RDAP record for every domain.
• Ultimate Simple. The same domains with a smaller set of fields, usually about 8x smaller, a few hundred megabytes instead of several gigabytes when compressed.

If file size matters to a workflow, you can use Ultimate Simple in place of the full Ultimate file. Note that those sizes are for the compressed download, not the uncompressed data after extraction. The specifications list the exact fields in each version.

The Ultimate Simple files are available at no additional cost to all Ultimate plan subscribers. 

For even lighter files without the WHOIS records, the feed also offers domain names only files.
